Via Francigena: A 1900km trail leading from Canterbury, England to Rome, Italy, retracing a medieval pilgrimage route. Camping is required and not all of the trail is currently marked. A Cicerone guidebook has been published to the first half, with the second half due to be published in November 2013.

St. Francis Way: A 550km trail from Florence to Rome, following in the footsteps of St. Francis of Assisi.

Jesus Trail: A 65km trail leading from Nazareth to the Sea of Galilee, connecting sites from the life of Jesus as well as areas of natural beauty and sites from world history. Often walked in four days, with accommodations and camping options. A comprehensive guidebook also describes an addition 200km of walking the area.

Abraham Path: A long-distance hiking trail across the Middle East, the Abraham Path has sections open in Turkey, Jordan, Palestine and Israel with plans to extend. Developed as an economic development project, local communities offer hospitality and homestays. An online guidebook is scheduled to be launched in 2013.

Saint Paul Trail: An 500km trail in the Taurus Mountains of Turkey, retracing some of the apostle Paul’s journeys by foot. A guidebook is available by trail founder Kate Clow.

St. Olav’s Way: A network of over 2,000km of trails in Norway leading to the city of Nidaros, Trondheim.

88 Temple Trail: A trail in Japan which connects temples associated with the Buddhist monk Kūkai. There is a guidebook available. Hikers can stay in bed and breakfasts or camp along the trail.
